TASTING NOTES:
Appearance
Deep cherry-red in color, with medium-plus intensity and youthful violet highlights. In the glass, it shows a dark, vivid hue with impressive presence, hinting at a young Mencía of notable depth, character, and concentration.
Aroma
An expressive nose driven by red and wild berry fruit aromas: cherry, raspberry, red plum, and forest berries. Floral notes of violet emerge alongside hints of Mediterranean scrubland and a distinctive mineral undertone that speaks clearly of its Bierzo origins.
With aeration, the wine gains complexity, revealing deeper nuances of ripe fruit, damp earth, stone, and a subtle balsamic lift. It is a serious and distinctive bouquet, shaped by the character and authenticity of old vines.
Palate
Full-bodied and generous on entry, with a juicy core of fruit. The palate is clean and well-defined, offering an enveloping texture supported by fine-grained tannins that provide structure without hardness.
The acidity is moderate and seamlessly integrated. Balance comes from the interplay of vibrant fruit, volume, supple tannins, and an underlying mineral backbone. Flavorful, broad, and persistent, the wine retains the direct appeal and energy of youth while displaying uncommon depth and presence for its category.
This is a young wine with the soul of old vines: dark, expressive, and substantial, yet remarkably fluid and faithful to the freshness and authenticity of its youth.
Finish
A clean and savory finish marked by lingering notes of red berries, violets, and crushed stone. It leaves a lasting impression of elegance and character, together with the unmistakable pleasure of wanting another sip.
